January Art Workshop w/ Jane Slivka

This is the second year I've painted with Jane. She has a nice loose style and a Florida palette both of which I appreciate. This is probably my favorite for the 3 days. It is done from a photo I took of a house here in New Smyrna Beach. I added the water in the background, which isn't really visible, but adds some depth to the painting.

This subject was to work on light and shadow, and how to deal with blocks of color rather than falling into depicting every blossom or leaf. I particularly like the shadows on the walkway. I think I need to break up the mass of flowers on the left fence.

Still life. Working with light and shadow, trying to depict fairly common forms in a loose inviting manner. Jane's suggestion was to make the background a warmer dark tone, to pop out the blues in front.
